Selami Günaydın was born in 1958, Bolu. He completed his elementary education in Bolu, high school in Gerede Imam Hatip High School. In 1982, he graduated from Bursa University-Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Department of Business Administration. He worked at the Doğubayazıt, Samsun, and Adapazarı factories of Yem Sanayii Co. between 1986-1993. Günaydın worked at Sakarya University between 1993-1996, and at the Ministry of Public Works, Directorate of Disaster Affairs in 1997. While he was working at Directorate of Kastamonu Public Works, he was appointed to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality-Directorate of Storehouses. Günaydın worked as a director at the Directorate of Affairs between 24.04.2001 and 14.06.2004, and a director at the Directorate of Auction between 14.06.2004 and 28.02.2005. He has been working as a director at the Directorate of Education since 18.09.2006.  By 18.06.2007, he has been as Directorate of Editorship
