Istanbul Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbas and his accompanying delegation will go to Lefkosa to sign a protocol today declaring Lefkosa and Istanbul to be sister cities.
Istanbul and Lefkosa, the captital city of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are becoming sister cities. Istanbul Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbas and his accompanying delegation will go to Lefkosa to sign a protocol today declaring Lefkosa and Istanbul to be sister cities.
Mr. Cemal Bulutoglulari, the Mayor of the Lefkosa Turkish Municipality and Istanbul Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbas will sign a protocol today declaring Lefkosa and Istanbul to be sister cities. After attending a reception hosted by Mr. Bulutoglulari on January 7, 2011 in Lefkosa, the delegation will visit the Near East Boulevard.
The visit aims to raise the international recognition of Turkish Cypriot people and Turkish Cypriot state, exchange of information and experience on business, trade, culture, tourism, preservation of urban and historical heritage, as well as an advanced level of cooperation between young generations in both cities. Mr. Topbas and accompanying officials with Istanbul Municipality will also have meetings with TRNC's President Dervis Eroglu, Parliament Speaker Hasan Bozer and Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk.
Mayor Mr. Topbas and his accompanying delegation will leave Lefkosa to return Istanbul in the evening of the same day.
