The documentary “The Cities of Istanbul” set to debut at the end of the year…

The documentary titled “İstanbul’un Şehirleri” (The Cities of İstanbul), is sponsored by the Genar polling company as part of the Istanbul 2010 Capital of Culture. It was produced by Mustafa Şen and İhsan Aktaş. Haluk Şahin, Necdet Sakaoğlu and Saadettin Ökten worked as project consultants. During the preparation stage, the documentary crew scanned 100 books, 15 encyclopedias, 150 articles, 27 theses, 30 periodicals, 30 documentaries and about 20 voice recordings. There are plans to translate the documentary into Arabic.

Bora Kahyaoğlu, the manager of the team, which will, after a short break in İstanbul, hit the road and go to Mecca, Medina, Constanta, Bakhchisaray and Sana’a, sums up the final aim of the project as follows: “We take cities as people. Everyone has someone who has made an impression on his life: a friend, a rival or a guide. İstanbul is in the center, but we have not departed thinking that İstanbul is the dominant figure. We are just looking for what İstanbul gave to other cities or what it took from them. Instead of drawing up borders, we underline similarities.”
