The Short History of Directorate
Directorate of Emergency Aid and Lifesaving,starting its mission in 1987, has continued its Emergency Health Service within the Department of Fire Brigade from 26 July, 2006 on.
Before 1994, the service number of the department was 077 and later it became (212) 528 10 10.From 28 May 2003 on, within the protocol framework signed mutually between our Directorate and Local Health Authority, it has been giving service of Emergency Aid Ambulance with service number “112” within the Health Command Center.
Missions of the Directorate
Starting the emergency aid services in case of emergent diseases, injuries, explosions, landslide, accident and similar cases,
Providing patient transfer and giving emergency aid services during the transfer,
Providing emergency aid services in case of extraordinary conditions,
Taking medical precautions for emergency cases during social events, meeting, sportive activities concerts etc and giving emergency aid services when necessary
Providing transfer service between the hospitals
Transfering the patients with social indications,
Transfering the patients in need of intercity transfer
Providing lifesaving services
Giving first aid trainings and seminars with the aim of informing the public of İstanbul about the first aid and healths issues.
Emergency aid and patient transfer with ambulance
In the event of any disaster, accident and in any medical emergency situations, we initiate the emergency response and continue with the medical response in the ambulance and transfer the patient and casualties to emergency health centers safely.
First-aid training
We train voluntary first-aid teams to assist health-care professionals in case of diseases and disasters which require emergency response.
Since 2000 we have been providing free-of-charge first-aid programs to NGOs, public institutions, schools, voluntary people, work places, educational institutions, and chambers to build an awareness of disaster preparedness and first-aid for any incident that may happen in Istanbul.
Trainings are provided by our qualified staff in First-Aid Training Center in Edirnekapı. The Center has 6 classrooms.
Basic firs-aid training includes basic life support as well as theoretical and practical lectures on firs-aid techniques. Trainings are free of charge and last for 16 hours in 3 days. At the end of the training, the attendees are provided with First Aid Training Certificate by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, a fully-equipped first-aid kit, a first-aid volunteer jacket, and a first-aid booklet.
In 2005, the Center was granted with a license by the Ministry of Health and started to provide Certified First-Aid Training.
