Mr. Şahbaz Şerif, the Prime Minister of the Punjap State of our brother country Pakistan, visited Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbaş in his office and received a warm welcome. Mayor Mr. Topbaş said, “ We will never forget the Muslim women of Pakistan and India that sent us their golden bracelets, earrings, and other valuables in support of us during our Independence War.”

Mr. Şahbaz Şerif, the Prime Minister of the Punjap State of our brother country Pakistan, visited Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbaş in his office and received a warm welcome. Mayor Mr. Topbaş said, “ We will never forget the Muslim women of Pakistan and India that sent us their golden bracelets, earrings, and other valuables in support of us during our Independence War.”
Mr. Şahbaz Şerif and his delegation visited Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbaş in his office. Mr. Sabri Dereli, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality; Mr. Muzaffer Hacımustafaoğlu, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality; Mr. Hüseyin Eren, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality; Mr. Numan Güzey, the head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department; and Mr. Nevzat Bayhan, the General Director of Culture Co. attended the meeting that took place in a very friendly atmosphere.
Speaking at the meeting, Mayor Mr. Topbaş specified that he was pleased with the visit by the Prime Minister of the Punjap State from the friendly and brotherly country of Pakistan. He said, “We have a historical relationship with the nation of Pakistan. I believe that this will continue in the future. The Turkish people will never forget the Muslim women of Pakistan and India who sent us their golden bracelets, earrings, and other valuables to support us during our Independence War.”
Mayor Mr. Topbaş expressed that every movement and development which has occured in Pakistan has been closely followed by the Turkish people. He said, “There is a good quote from Rumi: ‘Not those who speak the same language, but those who share the same sentiments live in harmony.’ Our closeness to each other is because we share the same feelings. I went to Pakistan in 1986. I also have received a very warm welcome in Islamabad and Karaçhi. At that time I had no official duty. Although the people who I met for only the first time there offered me a warm welcome since I was a person who came from Istanbul. I had the opportunity to visit the grave of Muhammet Ikbal who is officially recognized as the national poet of Pakistan.
Mr. Şahbaz Şerif, the Prime Minister of the Punjap State of Pakistan, expressed his pleasure in visiting Istanbul. He said, “I especially want to thank Mr. Kadir Topbaş who I know as a very polite gentleman for meeting us with a cordial greeting. Since we have come to Turkey, the people have shown us much attention and hospitality, both in Istanbul and Ankara. The relationship between Turkey and Pakistan is the warmest relationship among the nations in the world.”
Mr. Şahbaz Şerif emphasized that the assistance of Indian Muslims to Turkey during Turkey’s Independence War constitutes an important part of the warm relationships which date back for centuries between the two countries.
At the end of the visit, Mayor Mr. Topbaş presented a gold money to the guest Prime Minister of the Punjap State of Pakistan on occasion of the 555th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, “I certainly believe that the people from all islamic countries attended at the conquest of Istanbul” he said. Mr. Şahbaz Şerif presented an embroidered carpet with local motifs to Mayor Mr. Topbaş.
