THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ISTANBUL SEHREMANET
In the first half of the century there was not an effective municipality service. Even though the Istanbul Sehremanet was established by taking the west as an example, it showed a development structure to the central government. The Istanbul Sehremanet was appointed by the government and the decisions taken were made effective under the trusteeship of the government. The mayor appointed by the Sultan was called Sehremini.
There was also a City Assembly made up of 12 members.
The institution that was fulfuling the obligations of today's municipalities was called. Şehremaneti during Ottoman Period. And the mayors were calle as Şehremini in the Ottoman period.
