IETT AND ITS MISSION
IETT was founded in 1939 with the law no. 3645. İETT (Istanbul Elektricity, Tram and Tunnel) General Directorate was established to carry on tunnel, tram and electricity distribution works in Rumeli, Anatolian and Adalar sides. Today IETT has been carrying on the intracity traffic transportation in Istanbul.
IETT General Directorate carries on its intra-city transportation activities with its 2377 busses, 0.573 km. tunnel management, 1.7 km. Tunnel-Taksim Tram Line on the 2500 km. metropol area.
IETT is also responsible from the management and inspection of Private Busses (ÖZ) and Double Storied Busses.

ACTIVITIES
IETT is a public institution, provides intra-city transportation facilities throughout Istanbul. 24 percent of whole intra-city passanger transportation is made by IETT in Istanbul. Again 57 percent of the public mass transportation is carried out by IETT.
The road network of İETT is 1250 km. The lenght of total line is around 6100 km. IETT has 2569 busses and 2030 of them are in service each day. The lenght of distance traversed by these 2030 busses each day is 420.000 km.
The number of daily passengers transported by IETT is around 2 million.
The number of staff, serves in IETT is around 10.000
