Two important instituions of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality are ISKI and IETT. They were created by special law and are tried directly to the Metropolitan Mayor's Office.

ISKI (Istanbul Water Utility) provides drinking water and sewage services and IETT (Istanbul Bus Operator) handles transportation services.

The manager of ISKI and IETT is approved by the Minister of Interior Affairs.
