Objectives

SPOR A.Ş. was established in order to provide service to improve physical and mental health, to develop skills by encouraging participation in sports activities and enabling the citizens of Istanbul to make use of sports facilities.

It is also among the responsibilities of the company to build an operate the necessary sports facilities. For this purpose SPOR A.Ş. has built 12 sports complexes with Olympic standards in various sections of the city.

Main Areas Activity

The company builds and operates all sorts of sports facilities (outdoor and indoor) and sports schools in the fields of physical education, gymnastics and other sports branches.  By organizing national and international competitions and

granting awards she encourages sportsmen, sportswomen and their trainers, and also highlights the friendship and universalism associated with sports. In order to contribute to the increase of technical knowledge in physical education, gymnastics and other sports branches, the company makes informative publications and organizes series of lessons and seminars.

 

Since 1994 the company has regularly organized winter and summer sports schools, football tournaments, International Eurasian Marathon, and Municipality races.The best-known international activity of Spor A.Ş. is the Eurasian Marathon.

This is Turkey’s biggest sports organization of international level. Its slogan is “For Love, Friendship and Peace”. The marathon is televised internationally since 1996. Within this event a people’s race is also held as collective sports activity. 2000 athletes participated in the Eurasian Marathon in 1999 while the people’s race attracted 75,000 citizens. In this sense it is the engine of the Turkish athleticism.

The marathon is the only one in the world run between two different continents. An award of $ 20,000.- is given to the winner. In accordance with the equality principle the winner of the women category gets the same award. he number of students at SPOR A:Ş.’s summer schools has now reached 30,000.

 

T Students aged 5-15 get education in 20 different branches of sports including football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, chess, table tennis, wrestling, athletics, bodybuilding, aerobics, and Far Eastern sports.

The company also organizes on annual Metropolitan Municipality football tournament. Every year over 80 teams from district municipalities and other municipal institutions participate in this event.
