İSBAK A.Ş.
(Istanbul Transportation Maintenance Corporation)

With an internationally known and award winning reputation for quality, İSBAK is the #\ company in Turkey for design, development and implementation of state-of-the-art intelligent transport systems. İSBAK's impressive product line, significant accomplishments and vision for the future have made it a leader not only in Istanbul but throughout Turkey.

Objectives:

Established in 1986, İSBAK's mission is to produce traffic signalization systems for the greater Istanbul area; to carry out traffic, planning and feasibility studies; to produce superstructure equipment for signalization and junction control devices; and to provide traffic and system engineering.

Operations:

İSBAK has designed, developed and manufactured a range of products in two key sectors - traffic management systems and electronic payment systems.

Traffic Management Systems

-VECTOR - Vector is capable of automatically adapting crossroads signal timing to changing traffic flow while also permitting different signalization for extraordinary cases like festivals and parades and detecting defects and failures of equipment. It receives and displays messages - actuated green time signal plans, vehicle counts, alerts, etc. - and can send commands to intersection controllers for execution, e.g. to change signal plan or operation mode. With its modem structure, equipment and control mechanism, Vector is not only the highest quality intersection control device in its class, but is also a modern computer system.

-OPTIMA - The most intelligent intersection controller in its class, Optima manages traffic based on real time data - amount of traffic, capacity of intersects, geometrical features and other parameters - colled from intersections. Optima analyzes the infor-ion and by estimating incoming traffic demands, creats an optimization strategy for the junction. It can also run various traffic-engineering algorithms.

-EXPHRTRA - Expertra is an intersection controller which may be used in conjunction with many different signal programs. Its main features are adaptive controls, multi-plan, green-wave, remote police controls, VIP priority, pedestrian zone buttons, radio frequency/sonic detectors, air pollution warning options, and speed and red light violation options.

-SATETRA - Safetra is an intersection controller designed to ensure safe pedestrian crossing in fixed time, multi-plan or pedestrian activated modes.

-Variable Message Signs (VMS) - VMS informs drivers about current road and traffic conditions such as traffic density, accidents, and road maintenance works. drivers can be directed to alternative routes, allowing the traffic capacity of the network to be used more efficiently.

- Countdown device (CDD) - By displaying remaining time for green and red lights, CDD reduces traffic accidents due to red light violations and increases the safety of pedestrian crossing areas.

-LIGHTRA LED Traffic Lights - Traffic lights using LED technology save on energy consumption and
maintenance costs. With intensity, brightness, easy-assembly and original design, LIGHTRA represents the latest technology in traffic signalization.

-Digital Video Surveillance System and Urban Traffic Control Center (UTCC) - Using digital video surveillance systems, UTCCs can control and monitor live traffic movements 24 hours a day. Real-time traffic information enhances signal timing to better manage traffic demands, and images are broadcast on the internet for public viewing. Information derived from long-term observation and analysis serve to assist the traffic planner in elaborating, reviewing and updating signal plans.

- Software-all traffic data collected from intersection controllers are relayed to UTCCs by a Junction Service Provider (JSP), equipped with two-way communication abilities. Information is then stored in the Junction Database Server (JDS). Graphical User Interface (GUI) displays the status of intersections.

Electronic Payment Systems (EPS)

-Secufare - The first of its kind, this Secure Ticket Reading System prevents counterfeit ticket use. Using "covert technology", the Secufare secure ticket reading device is designed to distinguish between full fare, half fare and counterfeit tickets. The device is equipped with colored lights that clearly indicate the classification of each ticket, and cancels valid tickets as they are used so that they may not be used again.

Accomplishments:

İSBAK's list of accomplishments is a testament to its technological superiority in the industry.

-İSBAK was chosen as a recipient of the "Arch of Europe for Quality and Technology" award in the gold category in 2002. The award, given by the Business Initiative Directions organization based in Madrid, Spain, recognizes outstanding companies with excellence in leadership, quality, technology and innovation.

-İSBAK was the 1st public organization in Turkey to receive the ISO 9001 certification, ensuring that all of its products meet the highest international quality standards.

-İSBAK was the 1st company in Turkey to manufacture maintenance free Polycarbonate Traffic Signal Units.

-İSBAK was the 1st company in Turkey to develop and implement Urban Traffic control Centers (UTCC), which are used not only in Istanbul but also all over Turkey.

-İSBAK designed, developed and implemented the Optima Intersection Controller, one of the leading controller devices in the world owing to its open and flexible structure and its local optimization capability.

-İSBAK was the 1st company in Turkey to use the Green-Wave Program, which coordinates junctions on the same road to minimize the number of stops for red lights.

-İSBAK was the 1st company in Turkey to develop and implement LED Traffic Lights, reducing energy consumption by 85%.

-İSBAK is the 1st company in Turkey and one of the 1st companies in the world to use the MPEG 4 video compression technique in digital traffic surveillance.

- İSBAK designed, developed, and implemented the Secufare ticketing system, which has dramatically reduced counterfeit ticket use and increased ticket sales for the public transportation system.

Future Goals:

Always on the cutting edge of technology, İSBAK will continue to design and develop state-of-the-art intelligent transportation systems and equipment.

- İSBAK will continue to develop and enhance the Electronic Payment System and to develop new applications for the VMS systems.

-New projects being researched include emergency management systems, public transportation systems, driver assistance systems, law enforcement systems, and fleet management systems.

-İSBAK will expand sales and marketing efforts both within Turkey - to the Turkish Road Authorities and their contractors - and to suitable markets abroad.
