History “Tradition of a Century”
The Hamidiye spring water facilities were first introduced on 26 May 1902 by the Ottoman sultan Abdulhamid II. During those times the citizens of Istanbul were enjoying spring water from 145 fountains. Today 17 Hamidiye fountains are still intact These facilities were reorganized by the Metropolitan Municipality as a corporation and opened up anew on 20 March 1979.
Objectives and Operations
Serving people with healthy spring water, search of new springs, supply of city water in areas without running water are the main operations of the corporation. Since her very beginning the Hamidiye Corp. Is serving Istanbul with spring water via her dealers over a number of 100, while supplying people who have no access to running water with Turkey’s biggest fleet of tanker trucks numbering some 115.
In 1994 the Hamidiye Corp made her biggest leap forward achieving modern facilities and a modern organization. Following up all the developments made throughout the World concerning the water sector, Hamidiye became the leader in Turkish water business. Today the world’s first fluorinated bottled water is supplied by Hamidiye for the citizens of Istanbul. Fluorinated water is advised by the WHO as a means of preventive medicine.

Polycarbon pet bottled water Being in use in the USA and introduced recently in Europe, the polycarbon pet technology was examined by the Hamidiye Corp. In her surveys made in the USA, the UK and Sweden. The corporation applied this technology here in Turkey in harmony with international norms. Cup water prepared totally under hygienic and computer assisted conditions is healthy, clean and practical. The facility has a production capacity of 7200 cups an hour.
250 cc Fluorinated Pet Cup Water:
One among the firsts achievements of the Hamidiye Corp. Is the production of fluorinated pet cup water advised by the WHO as an elementary stage of public health service. Fluorinated water prevents dental decay up to 70% and also contributes to bone development in infants, a reason why it is advised for pregnant women and the elderly suffering from osteoporosis. Today the rapid change in nutritive and living conditions increases dental decay rate of infants rendering fluorinated water supply an important public health service.
The production facility in Kemerburgaz has an output rate of 7200 cups an hour under hygienic conditions assured by computerized control.

Services:
Disinfection of home water tanks: Being aware of the human health hazard caused by unclean water tanks and in accordance with a joint project with İSKİ the Hamidiye Corp. Introduced service of disinfection of water tanks via her four branch offices throughout Istanbul. A survey carried out jointly with İSKİ revealed that 90% of home water tanks checked in Istanbul are unclean. A process of chemical and biological mud formation over a long time renders top water undrinkable surpassing the disinfection activity of top water chlorine. So Hamidiye Corp. Formed special teams for disinfection of tanks. This is a non-profit service for the good of Istanbul’s citizens.
Ordinary water distribution: For areas and buildings like schools, hospitals, public offices, military facilities without sufficient running water, seven branch offices of the corporation provide ordinary water with tanker trucks under hygienic conditions. The service is free of charge. An additional service is the supply of water for picnic grounds via tanker trucks in summer. A transport of 6000 cubic meters of water daily supplies 200.000 people. Tanker trucks of Hamidiye numbering 115 visit regularly every corner of Istanbul and supply the demand of people in need of water. The Hamidiye Corp. Is also in service of Istanbul’s citizens during disasters. When fires break out in Istanbul and in forests around the city Hamidiye’s tanker trucks also supply the fire brigade with water. After İSKİ’s plans of drilling artesian wells in areas of Istanbul without running water are actualised Hamidiye’s tanker trucks will be taken off water service supplying parks and gardens serviced by the Metropolitan Municipality only.

Hamidiye and Healthy Water:
A service mentality based on the public health may be seen in production details:
A laboratory within the modern filing facility regularly checks the sanitary conditions of water.

The spring water is filtered many times, flowing through a 20 micron filter first, then through a 10 micron filter to get rid of its sediments, and, finally, through a 2 micron filter. Water, then, flows through ozone generators of the most advanced technology to ozone tanks. Here, all possible bacteria and microbes are eliminated and then water arrives filling machines to be filled up to bottles and cups for consumption. |

Bottles to be filled are washed with hot water and disinfectant chemicals and then dried by fully automatic machines. They, then, are filled up and capped automatically. The personnel’s hands may touch the bottles only after they are capped and sealed. Although it is not a legal prerequisite, |

water specimens are periodically collected and sent to the Health Directorate and to İSKİ (Water and Sewers Dept.) of the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul, as well as to the labs of the Marmara University for further analysis. |

The facility’s building is entirely covered with ceramics subjected to regular disinfection procedure once every month. The Hamidiye personnel is periodically taken to sanitary check and tests for possible portership. |
Hamidiye Corp. Is also within the afforestation project of Istanbul providing young saplings which are in dire need of water with her tanker trucks.
Hamidiye Corp. And the Marmara Earthquake:
After an earthquake water sources may get depleted, water pipes and sewer canals may be broken, the ground water may become infected, so ordinary and artesian wells may have to be shut down. After disaster, people may have to drink unhealthy water, resulting in outbreaks of infectious diseases. This is also a risk for the aid and rescue personnel, so it is top priority to supply clean and sanitary water to people in the disaster area.
This why Hamidiye Corp. Rushed with her tanker trucks to disaster areas after the Afyon-Dinar Earthquake, the devrek, Çaycuma and Yenice floods as well as the Adana-Ceyhan Earthquake, and finally the Great Marmara Earthquake.
After the first shock was overcome, an aid-rescue team was formed and sent o disaster areas of İzmit, Adapazarı and Yalova, along with 18 tanker trucks to regularly supply people with water. 15.000 19 lt. bottles and 400.000 cups of pet water were also added in the help list.
